Thameslink Project

The principal objective of the multi-billion pound Thameslink Programme is to increase accessibility to, from and through the heart of London and allow a major expansion on Thameslink Routes. The programme will provide the infrastructure to allow a major expansion of Thameslink services.

The infrastructure changes required to achieve this involves:-

  • - The substantial remodelling of Farringdon Station;

    - The effective rebuilding of Blackfriars Station and London Bridge Station;

    - The construction of a new viaduct west of London Bridge over Borough Market.

    Integra has been engaged to manage the LU interface associated with these works, primarily Farringdon and Blackfriars Stations which are in essence new stations.

    Integra’s was tasked with the provision of a team responsible for establishing and maintaining all processes across the LU interface.   This has included the management of the LU Compensation Budget and associated Agreements, access and possessions, asset protection, operational requirements, and the establishment of approaches for the phased introduction of assets into an operational environment as part of a holistic handback strategy.

One Hyde Park Development

Integra provided technical assurance services to Laing O’Rourke  on the One Hyde Park project for the tunnel link from the hotel to Knightsbridge London Underground station.

As part of the exclusive One Hyde Park development, the developer Project Grande (Guernsey) Ltd, through its Principal Contractor, Laing O'Rourke, were required to design and build a new northern entrance to London Underground's Knightsbridge Station.   The works involved the construction of a tunnel connection from the existing ticket hall to a new northern entrance stairs situated adjacent to the Mandarin Hotel.  This required major concrete works, architectural finishes, a new glazed canopy and extensions to existing Legacy systems.  Integra was engaged by Laing O'Rourke to work with the project manager on all London Underground related issues, including approvals, the compliance of the works to LU standards and the acceptance of the final commissioned works by the maintainer and operator.    The passageway was successfully opened in December and was well received by London Underground.

Train Depots

Engineering and assurance experience in the delivery of major train depot works. Facilities include train cleaning, maintenance pits, full train lifting roads, power and services upgrades, staff accommodation and signalling.

Much of the work has been within an operating environment, and therefore the interface with both train operators and maintainers has been crucial.

The depot works have been required to support the introduction of new rolling stock whilst still maintaining and decommissioning the existing stock, this resulted in considerable modelling and stabling analysis to ensure the needs of both the new and old stock could be simultaneously fulfilled.

Training

The infrastructure changes as a result of the Thameslink Programme involve substantial remodelling of Farringdon and Blackfriars Underground Stations. In order for staff working on these stations, both in operations and maintenance, to be aware of the new assets and to safely carry out normal and emergency station operations, the impact on LU staff needs to be measured. As there is also interface with Network Rail (NR) and Train Operating Company (TOC) staff, this also needs to be evaluated from an LU perspective.

In order to hand the new assets over to LU for operational and maintenance use Integra are undertaking the following activities;

- Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for LU operational staff and Maintenance staff

- Liaising with LU management, staff representatives and Chief Maintenance Office representatives to manage expectations and ensure smooth transition

- Dependent on the results of the TNA, develop appropriate solutions to meet staff needs, including briefing materials, briefing strategy and sign off of staff.

- Delivery of briefings and accreditation of LU staff to deliver these briefings

- Close out and handover of materials to LU
